Each prompt asks you to name something: a fruit, a country in Africa, a word that rhymes with cat. You get 25 seconds and one accepted answer. Your answer decides how far your swordfish travels, and after seven prompts your depth or altitude is your score.
Dive mode rewards the answer nobody else thinks of. Seven perfect answers take you to the Challenger Deep, 10,935 metres down, past the sunlight zone, the twilight zone, the midnight zone and the abyss.
| Tier | Points | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Lost Pearl | 100 | A rare find the game hand-picked as a treasure |
| Bathysphere | 80 | Fewer than 1 in 300 people would say it |
| Submarine | 55 | Fewer than 1 in 100 |
| Scuba | 35 | Fewer than 3 in 100 |
| Snorkel | 20 | Fewer than 8 in 100 |
| Paddle | 10 | One of the answers everybody says |
Leap mode rewards thinking like the crowd. Only the number one answer reaches Moonshot. Seven of them carry you through the clouds and the stratosphere to the edge of space at 100 kilometres.
| Tier | Points | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Moonshot | 100 | The single most common answer |
| Rocket | 70 | Second or third most common |
| Jetliner | 45 | Fourth to sixth |
| Balloon | 25 | Seventh to tenth |
| Gull | 12 | Valid, and at least 1 in 200 people say it |
| Splash | 5 | Valid but rare |
Swoftfish is a free pixel-art answer game. Each prompt asks you to name something, like a fruit or a country in Africa, and your answer decides how far your swordfish travels. Rare answers sink it into the deep sea, common answers launch it toward space.
In Dive mode the rarest valid answer scores highest and sinks you toward the Challenger Deep at 10,935 metres. In Leap mode the most common answer scores highest and lifts you toward the edge of space at 100 kilometres. Both modes use the same answer data.
Every accepted answer has an estimate of how many people out of 100 would say it first. Dive tiers run from Paddle (10 points) to Lost Pearl (100). Leap tiers run from Splash (5) to Moonshot (100), which only the number one answer reaches.
Yes. Small typos, plurals, missing spaces, alternate names and word order are matched automatically, so trik or treat still counts as trick-or-treating. An answer that is not on the list is turned away and you can try another before the clock runs out.
Every day there are seven new prompts for Dive and seven for Leap, the same for everyone, drawn at random from the whole question pool. The daily resets at midnight UTC and your progress is saved in your browser.
Yes. Host a room, share the four-letter code or invite link, and up to twelve players answer the same prompts together. Everyone's answers are revealed at the end of each round and the deepest or highest fish wins.
